Our Mission
The Media Ecosystem Observatory produces rigorous, independent research on Canada's information ecosystem. We track how information flows across digital platforms, study the spread of misinformation, and provide evidence-based insights to journalists, policymakers, and the public.
Founded at McGill University, MEO is one of the most comprehensive research operations studying digital media in Canada. We combine large-scale data collection across seven major platforms with survey research and qualitative analysis to produce actionable insights for journalists, policymakers, and the public.
Our Approach
Multi-Platform Monitoring
We track political discourse and information flows across X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Telegram, and Bluesky in real time.
Rigorous Research
Our work is published in leading academic venues and undergoes peer review. We combine computational methods with social science theory.
Public Impact
We produce accessible reports, brief policymakers, and provide expert commentary to journalists. Over 200 media appearances and counting.
